Jordan's Story At the YMCA, kids like 10 year old Jordan, a foster child with behavioral problems, develop a sense of purpose in life. Jordan, who was known for his violent outbursts and anti-social behavior, was asked to volunteer his time assisting younger children. Through his volunteering with younger children, Jordan found a place for himself where he was valued and appreciated. Today, Jordan is more confident, doing better in school, and most importantly, feels he can make a difference in the lives of others. A gift of $5 per month will help kids like Jordan. Amanda's Story At the YMCA, teens like 16 year old Amanda, a teenager with little interest in school and less in her peers and family never felt part of anything until she was introduced to a YMCA. Providing a safe, accepting and caring place, the Y helped her meet new people, develop her unique skills and talents, and build her self esteem. Today Amanda looks forward to going to college and pursuing her dreams. A gift of $10 per month helps teens likes Amanda. Laura's Story At the YMCA, families like Laura’s, a child born into a life of drugs and uncertainty, have their lives put back on course. When Laura was three, her mother overdosed. Margaret, her grandmother, will always be grateful for the role the Y played in helping her granddaughter overcome her challenging upbringing. After three years with the Y, Laura is now a self-assured, confident, loving girl whose grandmother has one less thing to worry about. A gift of $15 per month helps families like Laura's. |
